Somehow the sun, siestas, and tapas, although super relaxing, seem to fill the day pretty quickly so I apologize for the delay. Plus, I didn’t get too many pictures until today. I have to start being a little more trigger happy when it comes to my camera!

Yesterday we just spent the day hanging out, grabbing some breakie, and then wandering a bit of the city. We did however stop at a few grocery stores to prepare for our potluck last night. I have to say, WAY cheaper than anything back home – seriously cheaper. Our haul included an assortment of veggies, a watermelon and a half, some cheese, bread, six chicken breasts, a bottle of wine and two liters of beer (we were feeding eight) and all balanced out to 40 euro. Insane! Overall a really relaxed night and we stayed late just chatting and was able to meet some of the girls’ friends. Of course, they were all super fantastic and great to chat with. Surprisingly, only one is not from Calgary so many an opportunity to hang out still for the summer! (Epic fail though on the food porn however, should have taken a pic of the delicious dinner but next time for sure!)

As for today, I woke up early, and by early I mean 930AM and literally walked around the entirety of Sevilla to reach the Basilica. It being Saturday and all meant of course I showed up on the day of a wedding so no Basilica tour today:( Instead, I made my back and finished my tour of the mushrooms. And no not drugs momma bear.

There is a Pavilion in the center of old Sevilla with these giant mushroom structures. Very art deco (I think haha) but pretty cool nonetheless. At the base are a ton of local vendors and cafes and such with a massive fresh market housed underneath the structure itself. You can also make your way to the top of the mushrooms and are able to get some amazing views of the entire city.

(Considering it is Spain, there is also a bar/restaurant just below the mushroom caps and from the patio you can also enjoy the views. The girls promised to take me next week for dinner.)

I’m still unclear as to what the original intent of the Pavillion was, but, when the city began construction, they ended up finding roman ruins dating back to 1st century AD. Not too shabby of a find eh? Now, underneath the great mushrooms, lies an archeological museum that showcases the ruins, mosaics, and artifacts found that detail the old roman influence and residential life that is now Sevilla. (I didn’t know if I was allowed to take pics so I didn’t ask. Better to ask forgiveness than permission. Right Josh?)

Pretty productive day nonetheless. Got lost again quite a few times but managed to get myself back in one piece and on time to boot! The city is starting to get more and more familiar every time I venture out. Tourists have even stopped me a few times to ask me for directions either because I walk with such confidence (right! Ha) or the sun is making me look more and more like a local, which I think is more probable. What’s encouraging though is that I have been able to help every one!

Really, nothing terribly exciting to share with you all. Mostly just been catching up on reading and relaxing. Tonight, I think we’re going to try and have a better plan of attack for the rest of the time but I promise more pics to come. And yes, I am going to focus on the food for sure!! (I needed the reminder Jess so mucho gracias!)
